wired...

was in Cindi's stompin' grounds this afternoon. lois had an appointment with her eye surgeon this morning at 11:00. this time, it was at his west location, which is near I-70 and Wadsworth.

yep. lois is not finished with eye stuff... you'd think that after the two cataract surgeries last summer, that'd be enough for a lifetime. nope. turns out that she had a quarter of her (right side) retina detach last week. she was seeing a little shadow in her right eye and knew that it needed to be taken care of.

i guess that people who have had cataract surgery/lens replacement run a 3% higher risk of retinal detachment. this is one stat that you don't want to be in the top 3%...

so...she has been resting up since yesterday's procedure. are you familiar with it? go to this site for details...

in her recovery, she had to sleep propped up on a bunch of pillows. and after today's follow up, which revealed a touch of fluid build-up, she'll be able to sleep lying down, but must cock her head to the right for a couple days during her waking hours to facilitate the liquid dissipation. weird. looks like she has a really bad crick in her neck or sumpin'.

anyway, it shouldn't be more than a couple days for the swelling and fluid to go down. she makes a really cute prizefighter though ;)

oh yeah. i'm wired because we stopped at the *$$ on 55th for some caffeine before heading up to one of our fave Middle Eastern restaurants, Damascus, on 65th for the best hummus and pita in town.

*GASP*

it's gone. we drove up there and found a 'Grand Opening' sign over our beloved Syrian refuge. sigh. i guess Mahmoud sold it to some Vietnamese/Chinese restauranteurs. as if there aren't enough in this city...

ah well. luckily, the first Damascus is still on south colorado, not far from PCL. it's a helluva lot closer than the wadsworth store, but the service is spottier...and the parking SUX. it's in a strip mall with three other restaurants, Moroccan, Persian (i.e., Iranian), and Lebanese. four restaurants and no parking...you get the idea.

crestfallen, we headed back down wadsworth and stuffed ourselves with breakfast at IHOP. mmmm...peach pancakes. almost as good as Damascus' creamy hummus and light and chewy pita. thinking of it just makes me drool. i can see them bringing out the bread out of the pizza oven, hot and steamy heaven.

speaking of pizza ovens...looks like i got a date w/ Cindi and her BFG at the NY Pizzeria by the house. hands down the best in town. what makes their pizza so great? it's the chewiness of the crust and the slightly sweet sauce that makes you lust for more. sure, it'll kill your blood sugar levels, but it's a legal high! ooh, i can't wait. i'm supposed to meet them in a couple hours...
