not...

your average bird.

yesterday, right before i put the dogs out in the morning, i spied a raptor...standing in front of the ornamental grasses...like it was lost or something.

after checking out this site, i believe i've narrowed it down to a cooper's hawk:



it could have also been a sharp-shinned hawk, but it just didn't look like any of the pics at that site. unfortunately, i never heard either of the calls, so i still can't be certain of which species it was. nevertheless, it WAS a big ol' hawk that was hanging around the seed. mebbe it wasn't lost but waiting for an unsuspecting sparrow or mouse morsel.

kinda hope it comes back for an encore performance ;)
